WOCAT events at UNCCD COP13

The thirteenth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 13), the sixteenth session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC16), and the thirteenth session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST13) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) will be held at Ordos International Convention and Exhibition Center, Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China from 6-16 September 2017. Its high-level segment is scheduled on 11 and 12 September 2017, following the initial segment comprising the CST, the CRIC and the COW. Prior to that, preparatory meetings are scheduled on 4 and 5 September 2017.

At COP13, the Parties will decide on the Strategic Framework that will guide action under the Convention from 2018-2030.

WOCAT will be attending the COP13, and organize a side-event on evidence based decision making for up-scaling Sustainable Land Management and offer training sessions on the use of WOCAT methods and tools including the Global SLM Database that is the primary recommended database by UNCCD for SLM practices.

On 5 September there will be a capacity building session on how to use WOCAT methods, tools, and products for Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN).

It offers

• an introduction to the LDN concepts and link to WOCAT
• an overview of WOCAT methods, tools and products, and how to get started
• an insight into WOCAT experiences and WOCAT SLM Practices
• questions & answers
• refreshments

On 8 September there will be a side event on evidence-based decision-making for scaling up SLM.

It offers

• an introduction to the WOCAT-FAO framework
• perspectives and insights from countries and projects from IFAD and FAO
• results from the SLM research programme GLUES with book launch
• discussions on how to mainstream SLM
• refreshments
