Using the Land Degradation Assessment in Drylands (LADA) and WOCAT for scaling up good land management practices in Asia

Introduction

In 2023, the FAO’s regional office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP) developed a knowledge hub to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experiences on sustainable soil and land management in the Asian region.

By aligning with the principles of collaboration and shared learning, the hub has the goal to drive positive change in agricultural and environmental practices. This WOCAT-FAO training webinar is one among a series of online events organized to facilitate the use of the knowledge hub within the region in general and contribute to implementing the GEF project “Community-based sustainable land and forest management” in Afghanistan more specifically.

The training webinar offers essential information on the utilization of WOCAT-FAO tools and methodologies, serving as a basis for the development of practical skills.

Webinar's objective

  1. To create awareness for the use of the WOCAT Global Sustainable Land Management (SLM) Database for the reporting of SLM good practices and other related WOCAT-FAO tools for mapping land degradation and SLM as well as the FAO-LADA local assessment of land degradation.
  2. To increase countries’ and projects’ contributions to the WOCAT Database to increase knowledge sharing.
